The state’s main income source is considered to be the Tourism Industry of Goa, and we can say that around 75% of the locals depend on the business that comes from the tourists coming to Goa. The Hotels, Guest Houses, Restaurants, and Shacks survive majorly on the tourism industry, and hence the healthy tourism industry is the need of a day. Department of Tourism is working towards the improvement of this sector, but the main organisation that looks after the day to day development of the tourism business in Goa is the GTDC (Goa Tourism Development Corporation), and the human powerhouse who runs this corporation is the Managing Director of GTDC Mr. Nikhil Desai.
The Department of Tourism is gearing up for Goa Carnival 2017 which is scheduled to be held in the state between February 25 to 28 with a major focus on the Traditional and Cultural Aspects of Goa, revealed the sources in the department. Another Major development that will be witnessed in this Carnival is the change of ‘Carnival Parade Route’ from Panaji to New Miramar – Dona Paula highway.
Goa Tourism is constantly trying to develop the better infrastructure in the state to facilitate the tourism industry of Goa that is presently going through the bad phase. In one such initiative, the Tourism Department of Goa in Association with GTDC Goa Tourism Development Corporation has launched two long-awaited projects in the city. The first is the unique and first of its kind multilevel parking and second is PEDIBUS (a battery operated cycles).
