With Goa gearing up for the 4 day Carnival celebration across the state, updates have been surfacing for cancellation of the carnival. Due to the tensions existing between India and Pakistan, on account of terror attacks and bombing, the country is worried about the crisis.

There are various factors that may affect this carnival inclusive the recent high alert about the suspected terrorist attack on the coastal state and due to this the Goa Police even went out of there by stopping the Carnival Celebration carried out the foreigners in the North Coastal area two days ago. This even gives a stronger reason for the dismissal of the Carnival Parade that is supposed to commence on this Saturday.

According to Herald Goa, amidst ongoing tension between India and Pakistan and country mourning the deaths of 40 CRPF personnel, Congress in Goa has demanded cancellation of Carnival festival, beginning from March 2.

Addressing media persons on Thursday, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Girish Chodankar questioned BJP-led government whether holding Carnival celebration when the entire nation is mourning and tensed, is called patriotism.

Chodankar said, “BJP government in Goa only knows to shed crocodile tears to show their patriotism. This government will tell us stories of nationalism but will go ahead and celebrate Carnival,” He further commented saying, “When you tell people that you are sad you are going ahead to celebrate Carnival. Today we have to be with our Army and our soldiers.”

According to NDTV, the Minister alleged that Prime Minister Modi did not cancel his “campaign schedule” amid rising tensions on the border, and even a terror attack was being politicized.

Talking about the current border tensions, he said “Indian Air Force’s Wing commander Abhinandan Varthaman is in Pakistan’s custody and people are concerned about him. But the prime minister is silent,”

He requested the Prime Minister to put efforts into relaxing this crisis and bringing back the Wing Commander to the country.

The Goa Carnival is all set to begin on March 2nd and this four day Carnival celebrates the culture and cuisine of Goa and is packed with entertainment, music and fun. But with the ongoing situations, it would be unlikely that this carnival would be celebrated. Demanding that this is the time to stand with the soldiers of the country, the Minister called the cancellation of the carnival. However, there is no sort of confirmation yet given on this cancellation.
