We all know that Goa is one such place in the world that everyone wants to visit once in their lifetime. Goa is considered to be one of the most sought-after tourist destinations in the world, and it is famous for its pristine beaches, wine and dines. But how many of you know that is Goa is much more than just Sun, Sea, and Siesta? It does not matter if you are Goan or non-Goan, what matters here is, How much you know about Goa. Let us take you through the fact sheet of Goa…

  1. Goa is the only state in India having two official Languages, Konkani and Marathi.
  2. Konkani is the only Indian Language that is written in Five Scripts, Devnagri, Roman, Kannada, Malyalam, and Perso-Arabic script. Devanagari is the official script used to write Konkani in Goa and Maharashtra.
  3. Goa is one of the smallest states in India having a national highway span of 120KM from North to South Goa.
  4. Goa is the only state where the state transport corporation has been named after one of the old dynasties called Kadamba.
  5. Goa is the second state after Orissa where the world famous Olive Ridley Turtles come to lay their eggs on Morjim beach.
  6. Goa had been ruled by Portuguese for more than 400 years and it is the only state in India which has an Active and Enforced Common Civil Code, implemented by the Portuguese.
  7. Goans are the only Indian nationals who are eligible to enjoy the Dual Nationality with the help of Portuguese Passport.
  8. The first Printing Press in Asia was Installed in Goa by Portuguese at St. Paul’s College in Old Goa.   
  9. The First Medical College in Asia was started in Goa in the year 1842 at Panaji by the Portuguese known as GMC (Goa Medical College) which was closed down and Shifted to Bambolim, and the place was converted into ESG (Entertainment Society of Goa) where the IFFI (International Film Festival of India) takes place every year.             
  10. Goa used to export around 60% of Iron Ore to the countries like Japan and China, but now due to the mining ban, the same has been stopped.
  11. Goa is the first state in India to be declared as the permanent venue for the IFFI (International Film Festival of India)
  12. Goa is the only place where the Motorcycle Taxi Fellows are called as Pilots
  13. Goa has a lone Airport which was leased by the state government from the Navy to operate the regular flights to the state.
  14. Asia’s only Naval Aviation Museum is situated in Goa at Dabolim in Vasco da Gama.
  15. In India there are only two temples of Lord Brahma (one of the Hindu Trinity) one is in Rajasthan and Second is situated in Goa at a place called Carambolim.
  16. The biggest gift of Goa to Mumbai is the “Pao” (A Bread) which few Migrant Goans from Saligao and Siolim took it from Goa. 
  17. Goa is one of the smallest states in India, has one of the biggest bank deposits in the country.
  18. Asia’s Off-Shore Casinos are floating in the River Mandovi at Panaji Harbour.
  19. India’s largest laterite stone carving of St. Mirabai (Mira) is situated at the Ancestral Goa at Lotoulim village in south Goa.
  20. Goa is the only state in India has the highest forest density covering the 33% of total land Mass.
  21. The first English Medium High School in Goa was established in the year 1896 in Arpora known as St. Joseph’s High School.
  22. Goa is the first state in India wherein the registration of vehicles made online, and one can do the registration directly from the dealer. It started in the year 2006, and one need not go to R.T.O. office for registration.
  23. Goa has the highest per capita income in the country followed by Chandigarh and it is the second state in India after Kerala having the highest literacy rate in the country.
  24. And the last but not the least, Goa is the only state in the country where the Petrol is cheaper than the Diesel.
