As Goa dons its lush green monsoon coat, the call of the wild becomes hard to ignore. Answering that very call, the Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) has announced its next Monsoon Trekking Expedition — this time to the breathtaking village of Charavane in Sattari Taluka on Sunday, July 13, 2025. For those craving a break from beachside buzz and city routines, this trek offers a refreshing escape into Goa’s rich hinterland.

A Hidden Gem in Sattari

Tucked away in the northern pocket of Goa, Charavane is a name that resonates with nature lovers and wildlife photographers alike. Surrounded by dense forest cover and undisturbed ecosystems, the village is one of the gateways to the Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary, one of Goa’s most ecologically vibrant zones.

The 8-kilometre trail planned for this expedition is anything but ordinary. As trekkers meander through dense canopies, cross gurgling streams, and conquer slippery slopes and rugged climbs, they’ll witness monsoon magic in all its raw splendour. The region is teeming with fluttering butterflies, hidden waterfalls, and birdsong that echoes through the trees, making it a truly immersive experience.

A Thoughtfully Curated Trek

This moderately challenging trek has been curated in collaboration with the Forest Department, Government of Goa and the Goa Forest Development Corporation, ensuring that both safety and ecological integrity remain top priorities. Professional nature guides with deep knowledge of the area will accompany the group, offering insights into the flora, fauna, and lesser-known wonders along the trail.

Whether you’re a seasoned trekker, an amateur photographer, or someone just looking to rediscover Goa’s greener side, the Charavane trek strikes a perfect balance between thrill and tranquility.

Smooth Logistics for Every Explorer

GTDC has made it easy for participants across Goa to join the adventure. Buses will depart at 7:30 AM from Margao Residency and Mapusa Residency, and at 8:30 AM from Paryatan Bhavan, Patto, with convenient pick-up points at Birla Junction in Verna, Cortalim, Porvorim, Banasthari, and Honda.

The registration fee of 1400 per person (inclusive of taxes) covers transport, breakfast, lunch, and the services of trained nature guides — making it a well-rounded, hassle-free experience for all participants.

What to Bring (and What to Leave Behind)

With monsoon showers almost guaranteed, participants are strongly advised to carry rainwear, trekking shoes, an extra change of clothes, snacks, and binoculars. These essentials will not only enhance your comfort but also help you fully enjoy what the trek has to offer.

Importantly, this trek is not suited for those who are physically unfit, given some stretches of steep, slippery terrain. And as always, in keeping with GTDC’s eco-friendly ethos, smoking and alcohol consumption are strictly prohibited during the trek.

More Than Just a Trek – A Journey into the Real Goa

Goa is often celebrated for its sun-kissed shores, but its true magic lies in the quiet strength of its hinterland – in its wild rivers, ancient trees, and untold stories whispered by the wind through the forest. The Charavane Monsoon Trek is an invitation to experience this side of Goa – raw, real, and resplendent.

So lace up those shoes, pack a poncho, and prepare to breathe in the monsoon air like never before. Because sometimes, the best way to reconnect with yourself is to lose yourself in the forest.
