Maharashtra to setup Goan Style “Beach Shacks” on eight beaches including Ratnagiri, Raigad, Palghar

Maharashtra Tourism has approved the ‘Beach Shack’ policy for eight selected beaches situated in the state to boost tourism. All the eight beaches are situated along the Konkan coast and 10 shacks will be set up on each of them.

The beach shacks concept is very famous in Goa and the majority of the tourists prefers to go to the shacks. Maharashtra tourism is planning to encash on this popularity to boost the Maharashtra state’s tourism.

According to the reports, In a bid to boost tourism in the state, the Maharashtra cabinet on Thursday approved the “beach shack” policy for eight beaches along the Konkan coast.

The Chief Minister’s office in Maharashtra has confirmed the report saying that they will allow to set up around 10 shacks each at Aareware beach in Ratnagiri, Tarkarli in Sindhudurg, Varsoli and Diveagar in Raigad and Palghar’s Kelva and Bordi beaches.

According to the officials, this is just a trial and more beaches situated in Maharashtra will be incorporated in the policy in a phased manner. The state wants to boost the local tourism and hence the first preference of setting up of the shacks will be given to the locals, said the report,

The Shacks can only come up in areas approved by the tourism directorate with permits obtained from the state coastal area management authority, the statement said. “These shacks will generate 80 per cent of jobs for the locals.”

Although the beach shacks in Goa style will be set up in Maharastra due to COVID Pandemic the shacks will be allowed to remain open from 7 am to 7 pm and they will all be equipped with CCTV cameras, the release said.

Meanwhile, the cabinet also approved in principle, a proposal to privatise land and properties of the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC). 

In the first phase, the MTDC’s resorts in Ganpati Pule, Matheran, Mahableshwar, Harihareshwar, Mithbao and open land in Tadoba and Fardapur (Aurangabad) will be developed, it was stated.

A high-power committee will decide the sub-lease period and annual rent for the land will also be fixed, the statement read.
