The article was first published in Goa Prism and based on that, World’s most expensive and luxurious train is scheduled to run on the Goan tracks from the coming monsoon. This development is a part of the proposed extension of the existing Indian Railway route to the Southern India by the Union Railway Ministry of India.
According to the sources, Maharaja Express is not only India’s but the world’s most expensive railway serviced it is the matter of pride that such prestigious service is about to commence in this tiny state. The Union Railway Ministry of India is in the process of developing the infrastructure in the state to make the way for “Maharaja Express” which is supposed to be the most expensive train in the world.
The Union Railway Ministry is proposing the extension of the train’s route in Southern India and Goa is being one of the major tourism destination in the country it will have more scope for this train service. “There is ample scope for tourism development in Goa and Konkan belt and hence we have asked IRCTC to run the world’s most expensive luxury train Maharajas’ Express in the Southern India, covering Goa, Maharashtra, and Kerala,” Union Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu told the media while laying the foundation stone for the new railway crossing at Kharebatan in Maharastra.
Mr. Suresh Prabhu expressed his plans of starting the services of Maharaja Express in Goa. “My plans are to see that by next year, the Maharajas’ Express train should make trips in Goa during the monsoon. Although the travel of Maharajas’ Express is very expensive but it will attract high-end tourists and generate revenue for the railways as well as the State,” the Minister said. He added that the introduction of the train will help create employment and increase the average revenue of every Goan.
According to sources, The Maharaja Express was voted the world’s leading luxury train service four times in a row at WTA (World Travel Awards) starting from 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015. Currently, the train runs on five circuits covering more than 12 destinations across northwest and central India. The major destination is said to be Rajasthan where it runs from October to April.
Prabhu also said that Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) will set up 10 more railway stations along the Goa, Konkan, Karnataka and Kerala route, at an estimated cost of Rs 150 crore. Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza, Speaker Anant Shet, RDA Minister Alina Saldanha and Sindudurgh MP Vinayak Raut were present at the function said the sources.
With the inclusion of Maharajas’ Express services, Goa will have one more feather in its crown but do you know how much the journey of this train will cost to you? According to the sources, the minimum cost of travel will be 11,960 USD (7.90 Lakhs rupees) for the double occupancy in a Deluxe Cabin. The prices of Maharaja has been designed keeping in the mind international travellers to India, said the sources. According to the sources, Maharajas’ Express package provides an accommodation in double or twin bedded cabins with en-suite bathrooms and is inclusive of all meals, soft beverages, house brands of wines, beer and spirits. This Luxury Train Tariff also includes the butler service, Paramedic services onboard, guided off-tour excursions as illustrated in the journeys, inclusive of entrance fees, still camera fee, transport and services of a guide & porterage at stations.
Maharajas’ Express Fare shall not include any optional tours as mentioned in the itinerary, taxes, insurance, gratuities, telephone calls, laundry, non-house pour drinks, video & professional still camera fees.
