In a heartwarming collaboration between Manipal Hospital (MH), Goa, the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Goa State Branch, and Lions Club International, District 317B, International Childhood Cancer Day was recently celebrated with utmost grace and compassion.

On the picturesque shores of Goa, Manipal Hospital hosted a poignant event dedicated to shedding light on the challenges faced by children and adolescents battling cancer. Against the backdrop of serene beaches and lush landscapes, healthcare professionals and community leaders came together to honor this significant day.

The latest data from the National Cancer Registry Programme (NCRP) revealed that childhood cancer cases in India constitute a notable 4.0% of all cancer diagnoses. In response to this concerning statistic, Manipal Hospital has intensified its commitment to combat childhood cancer, striving to make a meaningful impact in the lives of affected families.

Lion Rajesh Karapurkar, President of the Lions Club of Bicholim, District 317B, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, expressing his admiration for Manipal Hospital’s dedication to raising awareness about pediatric cancer. He emphasized the importance of community support in transforming Goa into a beacon of hope for cancer-free futures.

Surendra Prasad, Hospital Director & Unit Head of Manipal Hospitals, Goa, shared his pride in the institution’s 30 years of unwavering service to the community. He underscored the significance of collaborative efforts with esteemed organizations like IMA Goa State Branch and Lions Club International in ensuring equitable access to healthcare for all.

The event featured touching video testimonials from pediatric cancer survivors, providing a poignant glimpse into their journey of resilience and hope. Dr. Mahadeva Swamy, Consultant Haemato Oncologist and Bone Marrow Transplant Physician at Manipal Hospital, Goa, delivered an enlightening session on the challenges of childhood cancer and the critical need for early diagnosis and specialized care. He highlighted the hospital’s innovative approaches, including immunotherapy and advanced bone marrow transplants, in striving for better outcomes for young patients.

Among the esteemed guests were parents of pediatric cancer patients, distinguished healthcare professionals including Dr. Ray Bhatt and Dr. Shekhar Salkar, and prominent figures from Lions Club International. Dr. Sredharan M, Consultant in Onco-Surgery at Manipal Hospital, Goa, reiterated the profound impact of childhood cancer on families and the strides made in treatment options, offering hope for a brighter future.
