Goa is not only considered as the most sought-after tourist destinations but it is also one of the most romantic places for lovebirds. Thousands of people come to Goa to spend some quality time with their beloved, but this Valentine’s Day their trip to Goa may cost them much more than they plan, especially if they’re planning to travel from Mumbai to Goa via air. How much it will cost? Let’s take a look at it here.

According to sources, the flight tickets from Mumbai to Goa will be very expensive this Valentine’s day, in other words, the airfares from Mumbai to Goa will cost you same as Mumbai to Dubai!

That is insane, right? But the question is why are the fares are skyrocketing this year so much so that one could even go to Dubai at the same price? The reason behind this is the unavailability of the regular flights from Mumbai to Goa.

According to the Times of India, if Goa is your idea of a romantic destination, this Valentine’s Day you will be left heartbroken at the prices if you’re coming from Mumbai. Three factors have come together and the triangle has made fares on flights from Mumbai to Goa ridiculously expensive. It will be cheaper for Mumbaikars to fly to Colombo or Dubai instead, says the report.

Valentine’s day this year falls on a Thursday, which is close to the weekend and many Mumbaikars, especially from the corporate world, want to come down to Goa to spend some quality time with their partners, but this year it looks like their dreams might get dampened by the rising airfares.

The sources have revealed that on Thursday, no flights will depart or land into Mumbai between 11 am and 5 pm as the airport will be shut for runway maintenance. Goa airport is normally shut for flights between 8.30am and 12.30pm on a daily basis to allow its operator, Indian Navy, to carry out training sorties.

According to the sources, that is what makes the airfares so high. The cheapest airfare that was available on Saturday 9th Feb for the 14th February from Mumbai to Goa began at Rs. 30,000 but that was offered at the very inconvenient time of a1 am the departure from Mumbai!

The cheapest fare for a flight with better timing began at a whopping Rs43,000, for a 5am departure from Mumbai (not too convenient, but the best morning option), with the return flight being at 6.40am from Goa.

Now you may think that next day fares might drop, but you’dbe wrong. According to the sources, the fare will only continue  to skyrocket the next day, being a weekend, and you can compare that to a Dubai to Goa flight (via Bangalore), where the cheapest return fare for two was Rs42,000. Similarly, Colombo-Goa return fare was Rs41,500.

So, if you are planning to come to Goa this Valentine’s Day, you better make some alternate arrangements for your journey: a road trip might be the best option and you can make it a romantic journey to paradise.
